Crossroads of the Scholas

Nestled in the scenic Shoals area of northwest Alabama, Leighton is a charming small town with a fascinating history. Initially dubbed “Crossroads” due to its strategic position at the convergence of two early stagecoach roads, the town later adopted the name “Leighton” in honor of its inaugural postmaster, the esteemed Reverend William Leigh. The 1830s saw Leighton transform into a bustling cotton shipping center following the construction of the Tuscumbia, Courtland, and Decatur Railroad.

Officially incorporated in 1890, the Town of Leighton boasts a storied past steeped in music, art, agriculture, sports, and the iconic presence of trains.
